Letter to Parents and families
The TEACH company is located in Hamilton, Ontario and Richmond, BC and both our offices are run by Canadians for Canadian graduates. You are very welcome to contact either of these offices during working hours but the TEACH staff will be happy to meet you in the evenings or weekends by appointment. We are very aware that parents may not be available during the day due to work commitments.
TEACH EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANTS is a small family company and we take a personal interest in the needs of the students and their parents. When you call the TEACH offices between 9 am – 4pm you will find that one of our consultants will answer the phone and deal with your questions and concerns immediately.
During the past 18 years in which TEACH has recruited thousands of students, it has become apparent that we are involved in a very sensitive and important part of the personal development of the students. Many of our previous students had never left the family home or traveled abroad so the responsibility to provide the students and the families with honest and exacting information is crucial to our service and one which we take very seriously.
I am sure you will be happy to learn that the TEACH company provides a personal consultant for each individual student who will oversee the entire application process. Their consultant will assist them with the initial application form right through to advice about visa applications, travel, accommodation, airport pick and finally, arrival at their overseas accommodation. These subjects cause parents most concern so we will be happy to spend time explaining the intricacies of the above, as they differ from country to country as well as from university to university. The families of the students are welcome to call their personal consultant and, in fact, it is very helpful to us if they do so.
All of the students and their families are encouraged to attend the predeparture meetings where they will have the opportunity to ask questions on any subject of concern and they will also be given all the relevant information. One of the most enjoyable parts of these events is the fact that the students meet other students who are going to the same university and the parents also have an opportunity to speak with other parents.
When the TEACH company was set up in 1991, one of the concerns we had was regarding any students who were homesick or had problems settling in. Most universities have now appointed a liaison officer to assist TEACH students and ensure that they have all necessary support during their first few days in the Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland or Ireland. We follow up all the students after they leave Canada and request that they contact their personal consultant if they are having any problems. I am happy to say that this seldom happens and most student settle down very quickly and start enjoying their life overseas.
The most important message I wish to pass on to parents is the fact that all TEACH staff are very approachable and anxious to be of any assistance whatsoever.
