Welcome to Teach
Canterbury Christ Church University, England

The PGCE Primary Course
The course is offered at the early years(4-8 years) and primary (7-12 years) levels. All courses offer a cohesive and integrated framework which allows a progressive approach to initial teacher education. The aim is to enable the student to develop a range of professional competences which will help them to teach effectively within their chosen age range. During your school experience, the students will meet regularly with the College tutors and school mentors who will offer guidance and support. The course is assessed through written and practical assignments and reflection activities.

Canterbury Christ Church offers the opportunity to study the PGCE Primary (Full-Time), specialising in Primary Languages. This is in response to the latest Government initiative for every primary school in the country to have a teacher qualified to promote/teach Primary Languages. During the PGCE programme you will be able to develop a specialism in one of the four languages offered: French, Spanish, Italian or German.

For the vast majority of the time the programme follows the same pattern and requirements as the PGCE Primary Full-Time. However, students following the Primary Languages route will also be expected to undertake an additional portion of their placement time in France, Germany, Spain or Italy (depending on their language). This will take place in the second term of the programme, lasting four weeks. Students will be accommodated and hosted by the country of their language specialism. For more information please contact TEACH office.
