| Primary Education – Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) |
Deakin University has introduced a new intensive Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) program at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds. It commences each November and finishes in June, making it the only 7 month course available. This new course is equivalent to the one year Primary teacher training course and, even with the shorter course, students will still receive their 45 days of Professional Experience, along with 5 days in schools for observations which fulfills the criteria for acceptance in Canada. The course includes a significant school-based component in local primary schools.

| Living in Geelong |
Geelong is Victoria's second largest city and boasts one of the best lifestyles in Australia, with all the amenities of a major centre as well as real country friendliness. Melbourne, the capital of Victoria is only a one-hour train or drive away. Some of the best (and most famous) of Australia's beaches, including Bells Beach and Torquay, are just 15 minutes away. With a population close to 200,000, Geelong is a historic and attractive bayside city with excellent sailing and swimming facilities. Walking and cycling paths hug the curve of the bay and provide easy access to the many attractions along the foreshore, including many cafes and restaurants, and fully restored art deco seawater baths. The Geelong Otway region is rich and diverse. Along with striking ocean views, the region contains laidback coastal towns and maritime villages, and there are plenty of opportunities for bushwalking, swimming, surfing, fishing and whale watching. Geelong offers a typical snapshot of Australian life and culture as well as a chance to experience the 'real' Australia. |

I spent 2006 down under, more specifically in Geelong Victoria Australia attending Deakin Uni. I can honestly say that this was by far the best experience of my life. The campus is beautiful, they are on a large plot of land that includes trees, a lake and heaps of wildlife. Everyone is so friendly and easy going, I encourage you to consider taking your primary education at Deakin Uni Waurn Ponds, you won’t regret it!
