The Institute of Education is a premier world centre for the study of education. At the same time it maintains strong links with schools in the London area. It has the largest education library in the country, housed in superb new accommodations, as well as excellent teaching facilities and a newly refurbished Students' Union.

The Institute is near Russell Square, in the heart of London University's Bloomsbury campus, and within easy walking distance of the British Library. The Institute is easily accessible by public transport and very convenient for all the major cultural and entertainment attractions of the West End. The Institute's mission to achieve excellence in teaching and research underpins the whole course, which is monitored through intensive evaluation and consultation with schools.

Practical Teaching Experience
Beginning teachers will carry out block practices in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. Practical experience will include structured observation of teaching; the effective management of classrooms, including the planning and preparation of pupils' learning; teaching under close supervision; accessing the work of pupils and evaluating one's own teaching and training in the general duties of a teacher in school.
PGCE offers courses in Primary and Secondary programs
Postgraduate Primary Course
The Institute's Primary PGCE programme offers a number of full time places to TEACH students.The Primary PGCE is run in partnership with over 350 primary schools in and around London who are jointly responsible for the programme and its development, through strong links between the Institute and school-based elements of the course.
The PGCE Primary is a modular course attracting masters level credits. On successful completion of the programme, you may be eligible to carry forward up to 90 credits to a masters degree, giving you the opportunity to start your professional development.
Postgraduate Secondary Course
High School Subjects:
- English - Business and Economics
- Geography - English with Drama
- ICT - Mathematics
- Music - Science
Note: The secondary course offers the opportunity to specialize in one of the above subject areas.
