The University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Education offers a range of programs to educators seeking to further their professional development. The programs are designed to fully engage learners using combinations of face-to-face and online delivery, and are taught by internationally recognized teaching staff.
All specializations are available as full-time programs on campus at Wollongong or part-time by distance education.
Most programs commence at the beginning of the academic year (February), however subject to demand, there may be an opportunity for Canadian students to commence the Master of Education programs in early January.
Programs of Study
The Master of Education is an introductory higher degree for professional educators, including teachers, administrators and policy makers.
Students choose one of the following specializations:
- Adult Education/Higher Education/Vocational Education and Training
- Educational Leadership
- Information and Communication Technologies in Education and Training
- Literacy Education
- Physical and Health Education
- TESOL
- Special Education (not available online)
Duration
1 year full-time (or up to 3 years part-time)
Starting Sessions
Autumn Session (Feb – June) – A January intake may be available for Canadian students, subject to demand.
Spring Session (July – Nov) – Spring intake may be available depending on specialization
Mode of Delivery
Full-time: International students studying in Australia are required by the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs to be enrolled in a full-time program.Part-time study is available if studying off-shore and online.
Admission Requirements
Candidates must have the equivalent of a four-year teacher training qualification. This includes a completed Bachelor degree plus a Graduate Diploma in Education, or a four-year Bachelor of Education program. Three year trained teachers with evidence of substantial professional experience and further study are also eligible. In some specializations it would be an advantage to have a classroom experience before attempting the Masters program. Students completing the Graduate Diploma in education at the University of Wollongong in November would be eligible to continue the Master of education in a special program starting in January (subject to demand), or the regular Autumn or Spring sessions in the following year.
